Appendix D — Coach Code of Conduct & Quick Reference

Coaches are expected to
- Put player welfare first — always ahead of results
- Create a safe environment — follow all safeguarding requirements
- Promote enjoyment & develop players for the long term
- Promote inclusion — every player feels valued
- Support retention — every player matters
- Communicate professionally with players and parents
- Support The GHA Way — operate consistently with Club values
Coaches should
- Encourage effort & attendance; welcome new players
- Support volunteers; build positive parent relationships
- Promote Club values & keep developing their coaching
Communications & safeguarding
- Recruitment principle: Welcome. Do not target.
- Communicate clearly & respectfully; follow Club processes
- Follow safeguarding procedures & maintain certifications
- Escalate concerns appropriately — never deal with them informally
Coaches should not
- Publicly criticise players or referees
- Target players from schools or other clubs
- Circumvent Club policies
- Create unauthorised branding or merchandise
- Use discriminatory or offensive language
Before the season
- Complete coaching qualifications
- Read The GHA Way
- Meet with parents
- Agree communication methods
- Plan the season
- Confirm registrations
- Order kit in time
During the season
- Put player welfare first
- Encourage enjoyment & development
- Communicate regularly
- Monitor attendance & welfare
- Seek support when required
- Promote respect at all times
Match day
- Create a positive environment
- Respect match officials
- Encourage positive behaviour
- Keep player welfare the priority
- Thank volunteers & opposition
End of season
- Complete coach handover
- Return Club equipment
- Record learning points
- Celebrate achievements
- Support transition up
