Selection is based on attendance, availability and welfare: never on ability before Open Competition.
Welfare & Safety · Handbook page 37
Selection should be based on
- Attendance & commitment
- Availability
- Welfare considerations
- Practical squad management
Selection should NOT be based on
- Ability
- Physical development
- Representative honours or perceived potential
Retention First: the primary objective is to attract, develop and retain players. Selection, participation models and activities should support long-term retention and enjoyment.
GHA will not stream players on ability before Open Competition rugby. Every player in a match-day squad should play a minimum of a half game. Match results and tournament outcomes are secondary to positive experiences and lifelong participation.
Selection principles should be communicated through Appendix A, Season Welcome Pack.
